PALO ALTO, October 10, 1995-- QualSoft Corporation and Non Standard Logics (NSL) announced today a major pricing breakthrough in X/Motif GUI development tools. XFaceMaker/IDT, the entry level Motif layout tool of Europe's top GUI builder family, is now available in North America for only $995. Regularly priced at $1,995, XFaceMaker/IDT is the only Motif layout tool which offers a fault-tolerant architecture, HTML-based on-line documentation and a growth path to more sophisticated yet compatible Motif builders, all from the same vendor.

"We find that too many GUI developers have a hard time justifying $3,200 to $3,500 for an interface design tool or screen painter, so they still hand code their interfaces," said Laurent Gharda, president of QualSoft. "Only about 30% of the user interface development effort is spent on the layout portion of the interface, so I understand why users balk at the high prices that other IDTs command today."

By providing a superior and scalable IDT solution for only $995, QualSoft is empowering Motif developers to use what may be their first layout tool, while offering a growth path to the more advanced tools needed during the lion's share of the development effort: developing and testing the behavior, while making sure the created objects are easily re-usable and conform to corporate standards.

"That's where our other products come into play: XFaceMaker/IDT can upgraded to XFaceMaker/IL for application layout and behavior (for $2,500), to XFaceMaker/UIMS for application layout, behavior and Xt/C++ class generation (for $4,000), and to XFaceMaker/ Widget Factory, for animated graphics layout and behavior, Xt/C++ class generation as well as custom widget class creation (for $8,250). We want all Motif developers to experience the several-fold increase in productivity associated with using scalable GUI builders. And we priced the entry point to make it difficult to resist." Gharda concluded.

The XFaceMaker enhanced dual process architecture allows full recovery from design errors, which are very common in X/Motif development, and considerably reduces development times when compared to all other builders which systematically crash when the application under development crashes. The dual process architecture also enables on-the-fly loading of third party widgets, application functions or libraries.

Platforms

All products run on current versions of Sun SPARC SunOS and Solaris 2, HP9000 HP-UX, IBM RS/6000 AIX, SGI IRIX, DEC OSF/1 and Digital UNIX as well as Concurrent MAXION MAX/OS. Novell UnixWare 2.0 and Solaris x86 support will be available this fall, and Microsoft Windows 95 and Windows NT early next year.
